Conrad Clarke is an award-winning artist living and working in the Cotswolds, UK. His practice draws inspiration from the natural world, with a particular focus on native plants and the different ecologies that make each place unique. While the subject of his work is clearly rooted in reality, it is his contemporary approach to painting and fascination with color that gives his work its distinct atmosphere and playfulness.

Through the careful layering of color, pattern, and delicate detail, he seeks to capture the complexity and subtle character of a place tempered by looser, more painterly passages that provide a sense of visual relief.

Often finding inspiration in the most unexpected places a tangle of self-seeded annuals and grasses along a gravel riverbank, plants breaking through pavement cracks, or the tapestry of perennials in an abandoned front garden he draws on these small, seemingly ordinary elements to uncover endless points of reference and invite closer attention.

Conrad’s work has been collected widely internationally and he has also received numerous awards, including the Jacksons Emerging Artist prize in 2020.
