DAVID FELIX

CUT & PASTED
David Felix
8 - 14 October 2025
Open 10am - 5pm daily.
Final Tuesday 10am - 1pm.

The title for this exhibition refers to David’s working method - he has by now over sixty years’ of personal history and delight in working with paper, scissors and glue.

For this, his fourth solo show at Spring, in order to move away from the standard rectangle, he has taken his interest in irregular and different formats even further - in shapes both geometric and asymmetric.

He works with recycled fibre board, corrugated cardboard and reclaimed timber ( for example, one piece in this show is made from the selected part of a garden shed ).

This is a sustainable solution to building up the surface on which to collage, using salvaged cardboard, cut to shape and layered to provide a block of whatever desired thickness.

In terms of materials he will make use of whatever looks interesting and fits the mood and colour of a piece. This could include leather, vinyl, plastic, ceramic, string and bamboo, together with a variety of fabrics. He has a longstanding love of calico as a receptive surface to tint and texture, and on which to layer shapes.

David is fascinated by different languages, scripts and fonts. Sometimes a piece will spell out the work’s title, or else there’ll be a cluster of letterforms that make up a mystery of unpronounceable words.
