Paintings and drawings: the memories of places, walks and the spaces in between.

This show is about a deep love of the natural world, and about a place in which it melds with a life. It is an investigation into the ‘feeling’ of nature as well as the joy and energy it imbues. Addy Gardner paints what are essentially internally felt memories of places significant to her. They are not places of monumental significance but a coalescence of joyful moments with her family, and when she is alone in nature. The works are loosely based on a handful of walks and the spaces in between. In the words of poet and environmental activist Gary Snyder, ‘Nature is not a place to visit, it is home.’

‘Addy Gardner clearly shares her vision of the lush, lost world of untamed nature she recalls from childhood, and now witnessing the change to our environment. Reflecting the dreamlike forests of classic fairy tales, these are lyrical, tranquil landscapes with a narrative: painterly poems to take us on an enchanting journey of the imagination with an emotional and spiritual sense of time and place.’
