COMPLEMENTARY CONTRASTS
Antonella Scarpa-Isles & Michael Isles
16 - 22 July 2025,
Open daily, 10am - 4pm.
The exhibition explores themes of city and country, aligning and contrasting Antonella’s painterly approach using acrylic and oils on paper and canvas, with Michael’s search for artistic expression in the capturing of contemporary architecture, often in abstract ‘pieces’ of the buildings. The intention is to showcase the environments we visit and have relationships with, using two very different mediums to show both connection and separation. -
VIEWS IN FRAME
Belinda Millar
30th July - 5th August 2025A collection of Plein Air Landscapes by Belinda Millar
Belinda Millar has spent the first half of 2025, exploring the great british countryside working on a collection of expressive plein air landscape works.
Views in Frame presents a collection of plein air landscape paintings that capture the fleeting beauty of nature, framed in the moment by the Millars' eye. Each piece is a testament to the ever-changing light, shifting horizons, and the immersive experience of painting outdoors, which allows Millar to connect with the natural world in a multisensory way. With brush in hand and the elements as their guide, Millar translates landscapes into vivid impressions - ephemeral, yet preserved in frame.Step into a world where vistas unfold in real time, where every brushstroke echoes the movement of clouds, the dance of light, and the quiet serenity of the natural world. -
FACETS OF VENICE
Jeremy Duncan
6 - 16 August
(Closed Monday 11th)
Open daily 10am - 5pmThe American artist, Rockwell Kent, said ‘we live for those passing moments of beauty’. I find these in old buildings. Façades provide a framework of bold horizontals and verticals counterbalanced by the diagonals of cast shadows. This geometry is enriched by the texture of building materials such as stone, brick, plaster or wood, and is enhanced by the colours of doors, windows, shutters and shop fronts.
I have found inspiration all over the world, especially in New York, London, Paris, Venice and Rome, but my immediate environment also provides endless subject matter, a familiar building, for example, entirely changing character as light falls on it in the morning or evening.
The battle to harmonise such different elements is constantly challenging an rewarding. I aim for a sort of abstract realism, seeking a pleasing composition which the Dutch painter, Piet Mondrian, liked to call ‘a dynamic equilibrium’.
